View Full Version : Is the stick weighted?

All the workouts use a stick. I was wondering if this is a weighted stick. I only have my Firm Sculpting Stick to use at this point and in some cases it doesn't seem like the appropriate tool. For example, I was doing Pump last night and the lateral raise stretches were awkward and I think my form suffered.
Can you tell me what they are using?
Thanks:o

I believe the stick used in the videos is a wooden dowel.

It is the wooden dowel like in the old firm tapes. You can get the dowel and cane ends at the hardware store for about $10 or less. I got mine for just ove $7.00 about 2 years ago.

I like it. did it tell anywhere if it is suppose to be a certain length? I remember in Strong Bear she says to put your hands on top of it and jump. so, just thought to myself, I wonder should it be chest hight or sternum hight?

I think I'll build one. There are times when the weighted sculpting stick is almost dangerous to use in place of the dowel.
Thanks for the info.
Tytbody- good point on the height thing. Anybody know the answer to this one?

The same length as a broom or mop.

With the caps on the ends it measures to 50 inches. I belived I got a 47 or 48 inch dowel from Home Depot when I put it together.

You can use the weighted stick on some aerobic sections but I would suggest you do not, since the isometric tension it puts on your muscles (mainly shoulders) is bad for your form and exhausts the muscles - so when you go to the weights section of the workout your muscles are fatigued and do not perform as effectively.

I like to use the scuplting stick while doing exercises in which the stick is used only for balance and support. It gives me more support than the dowel.

Well, I did it. I'm a successful stick maker...LOL I got chair tips and a dowel from the home improvement store. Now all I need to do it either stain it or paint it. We could create a whole cottage industry of designer dowels.

The same length as a broom or mop.
Doesn't one of the background exercisers actually use a mop?
I often use my swiffer.http://www.whfn.com/board/images/smilies/tongue.gif

gotta agree - don't use the sculpting stick!! I have a 9 lb body bar that i had always used for a sculpting stick sub, and when i first did these workouts i tried that...OMG...yes, exhausted those muscles but good. Finally found a wooden dowel that dh had in the garage, and it works great!! No caps on the end, but since i work out on a really large rug, it's not an issue.
hth!
