View Full Version : Weights on shoulders or in hands?

I have never quite understood the difference in the placement of weights during squats, lunges and tall box climbs. Is placing the weights on your shoulders while doing these moves superior to holding the weights in your hands? I hope someone can answer that question for me.

I guess it may be just a preference. I prefer to put them on my shoulders. I also feel that I can use heavier weights better that way. It never did appeal to me to hold them in my hands down by my sides.

I usually "copy" what the video lead does, but my chiropractor said he definitely recommends NOT puting them on the shoulders if you have any type of neck issues (which I do -- I'm prone to getting a stiff neck and then a tension headache).
