Picked up one of the Glycemic Index diet plan books as hubby is finally motivated to try an actual plan to help with weight loss/blood pressure/cholesterol. I wouldn't mind losing a few pounds myself, just to keep him company.

But this is actually fairly different from how we normally eat. I'm Italian. I usually make a big pot of meat spaghetti sauce each week for use throughout the week; heavy pasta and pizza. I simply don't know how to incorporate the plan in a day-to-day basis other than the basics.

I'm relying heavily on oatmeal, the Kasha cereals, no-fat yogurt, and a grilled something or other with a plain vegetable or salad with oil/vinegar. Low-fat ice cream for dessert. I don't know what else to do. I tried one recipe in the book for veal stew, and it was truly excellent. But I can't cook like this every day and work.

If someone who is familiar with this diet can give me some pointers on how to use it on a day-to-day basis I would truly appreciate it. As a side note, for the two days we've tried this (with the low-fat ice cream every single night, of course!), hubby has lost 3-1/2 pounds. I don't know what weight I was two days ago, but I was 107 pounds last night. I guess that's motivating!

Peggy,

I don't know any thing about that diet, but suggestions for time savers would be the crockpot and grilling, if you can adapt any recipes for those.
