View Full Version : Is this a good rotation?

After a l-o-n-g hiatus not exercising, I realize again how much I love AWT and am seriously enjoying getting back into my (classic) Firms and FitPrimes. In fact, I'm surprised at how strong I still am, but I did do the Firm for years. I'm also looking forward to the new FitPrimes and KickButts.
I'm planning an AWT rotation but can't tell how much/how little is optimal to do per week. This is my preliminary design but I'd love to get input and opinions on it. (Re: my background, I'm 43, and am primarily a strength/weight-lifting type who now needs to lose about 60 lbs. Told you it was a long hiatus!)
MONDAY
upper focus (i.e. Firm Upper Body)
extra abs/stretching if needed
TUESDAY
cardio focus (i.e. Fat Blaster, Steamin' Cardio, etc.)
WEDNESDAY
total body focus (i.e. Tough Tape, Stong Bear, etc.)
extra abs/stretching if needed
THURSDAY
cardio focus again
FRIDAY
lower body (i.e. Firm Standing Legs or Floor Legs)
extra abs/stretching if needed
SATURDAY
maybe Pilates, Bar Method or good stretching tape
Does this seem like too much Firm-ing? Is it better to just use AWTs 3x/week and do plain cardio (Tae Bo, treadmill, etc.) the other 2-3 days? What do you think? TIA!!

I think it looks great! I don't think it's too much Firming because your only working each body part with weights twice per week. For variety (I know I need variety, but not everyone has the short exercise attention span that I do! :p ) you may alternate with a week where you do three total body AWTs to alternate with this week you've planned. That way you can also keep your body guessing.
Everyone is so different that I hesitate to say if any rotation is the best. To determine if this one's working for you, or if you need to tweak it, use those weekly measurements to assess your progress. Good luck, and I want to hear how you are doing! :D

Thanks, Jenn! I agree with your suggestion... plus, I have so many total body Firms that I want to use them all! In my experience nothing works me harder, while at the same time makes me feel as elegant and feminine, as BBH workouts. They're the best!

Hi Lucky Star!! My name is Carolyne and I am fairly new to the boards. I too was on a long hiatus and my history is with the Firm. I am 43 and I too needed to lose about 60 lbs when I started about 6 weeks ago. I have since lost 11 lbs and 12.75 inches. I have been doing the TLP's that I bought from Tracie Long in mid January. I have been rotating a strength/stability ball/medicine ball workout (tracie style) with plain aerobics every other day 5 to 6 days a week, depending on what my body is trying to tell me. I have also been using the Weight Watcher's points system to keep track of my calories. So far so good I think. I would love to chat with you more as time goes on. I currently post the most under the challenge threads. 2005 challenge thread to be specific. I would love to be part of a support system for you as well as your encouragement for me. Glad to have you aboard.
P.S. Hi Jenn
Love, Carolyne

Hi Carolyne and thanks so much for the friendly welcome! I'm Virginia, btw.
Wow, congratulations on your achievements so far! :) Looking at our stats, we sure have a lot in common, don't we? I'm encouraged to hear that you're losing pounds and inches so quickly because at our age it...can...be...slow, lol. I've visited Tracie's website but haven't purchased any TLPs yet. Which ones did you buy, the ones with her or other instructors? I'm so curious; how do they differ from her Firms and FitPrimes?
I would love to share encouragement and accomplishments with you, so I'll head over to the 2005 challenge thread.
Thanks again,
~ Virginia

Hi Virginia, I hope you found this thread. I bought all of the workouts. I have the first three and the Yorktowns that Tracie instructs in. They are completely different from any other workouts ever done. They were trained by NASM before they coreographed these dvds. It is called functional fitness and it is geared toward strengthening muscles that help us function in our everyday lives. They are truely remarkable. I really love Core Strength. That one is my favorite. My next favorite is Functional Strength, then Core Foundations and Dynamic Strength and Power. They each have a different emphasis and when combined they are lethal on fat in my opinion. I have never had this quick of a result with any other style of workout. When I receive my 12 dvd set from FitPrime I will be alternating weeks of them with weeks of the TLP's in between. I will seriously doubt that I will ever stop using them. They build such a wonderful base strength for other workouts. I guess I have gone on long enough about the TLP's. Can you tell that I like them? :D
P.S. I am posting this on the challenge thread and the " Is this a good rotation" thread in hopes that you see it soon.
Have a great night Virginia

Hi,
I was really interested in your comments about videos by Tracie Long. I love Tracie as the lead in Fitprime and Firm videos. I tried to find the videos you were talking about by poking around on the web, but couldn't find anything. What web site did you go to? Where do I find more info?
Thanks:)

Thanks Jenn, I just read Abbies post and was just about to do the same thing.
Hi Abbie, I am sure you found the website with Jenn's info. They are very hard to find if you searching the internet. I came across it by looking for FitPrime information about 8 weeks ago. I was browsing the forums. That is also how I found out about the new workouts here. These forums are gems :D
I would be glad to answer any questions that I can regarding the TLP's. Just ask. I am glad to meet you, Abbie.

Hi Carolyne,
Thanks for responding. I did find the videos thanks to Jenn's message (which I really appreciate). I am feeling a little overwhelmed by my choices for exercise tapes. I'd love to hear feedback about the TLP, and any comparisons with fitprime would be helpful. There is a limit to my exercise video budget. I really like the orignal fitprime tapes "Weights First", "Strong Bear", "From the Ground Up" and "Crunch Time". Is there a different approach that distinquishes the original fitprimes, the new fitprimes and/ or the TLP's?
It is nice to meet you. I am new to the forum but am enjoying talking exercise with people who understand:cool: .

Hi Abbie, The TLP workouts are designed for functional fitness by using core work as the staple of exercises. A lot of plank work on the stability ball and a lot of transverse plane movements using both the stability ball and a medicine ball. One of the workouts focuses quite on agility training, meaning being able to make explosive moves from all directions. It is very challenging yet very doable. They get you strong from the inside out. Getting that girdle that supports our torsos strong and limber. There are also strength training moves that work the legs and the upper body using weights.
As far as the comparison to FitPrimes and comparing the original FitPrimes to the new ones, I will have to bow to others on this forum. I do not currently own any of the FitPrime workouts. They were popular at time when I didn't have enough money to invest. I already owned the majority of the Firm workouts as well as some others out there and felt that I could get by without getting any more for a while. When I did have the money, FitPrime was in a state of flux, I think.
If anybody else out there could give Abbie some pointers on the FitPrime comparisons, I would really appreciate it.
Have a really great night Abbie, It really is nice to meet you... :)

They stopped selling the old FitPrimes as of Dec 31st (I think). They've been revamped and improved as new FitPrimes and KickButts. I *think* the old FitPrimes are most like the new KickButts, but I'm not exactly sure.
Also, Tracie Long Productions (TLP) can be found at tracielong(dot)net. Several video releases but I don't any (yet) so I'm not as familiar with them as others here. Hope this helps!

I ordered the TLP DVDs a couple of weeks ago, but found that my DVD player would not play them because the format of the exercises was printed on DVD-R. I returned them, but was very upset about it. I was really looking forward to these DVDs! I was wondering why I was having such terrible luck. Could it be my DVD player? (Too old??) Has anyone else had this problem? Do you know how I could avoid it so that I can get copies of these exercises?

My DVD players are both less than a year old, and I also have compatability issues with DVDRs. The technology is supposed to be getting better, but it's also very complicated - there are so many variables, so I've heard. I can play some DVDRs, while others have issues...depending on how they were replicated. I have this one DVD player that could play ALL the DVDRs I had, and then all of a sudden, it started having problems with the same company's DVDRs...
They really need to use DVDs. I shelled out big money for those workouts, even at the preorder price. If they were DVDs, they would be at least 99% compatible.

I heard a rumor that at some point they will be reprinted on DVD. I guess I'll wait until then!
