I can’t believe how quickly things can do a complete 180. When DM had her first PET scan she was told there was no sign of cancer. But later after talking to the Dr. and pressing him for information she found out that the tumors had shrunk. She continued chemo and has had her second PET scan last week and the preliminary report is that the cancer has not only grown but spread to her lymph glands. She is totally depressed, understandably, and I feel so helpless. She has an appt with the oncologist on Friday to find out what the PET scan shows and what he suggests. A friend is going with her to the appt which is good as I’m sure shock will make her hearing and memory questionable. Today she is sending up Dad’s ashes and some of his other stuff in preparation for coming up to spread them at what Dad called ‘the kid’s farm’, our place. She didn’t want to do that until she was healthy but now she has given up. I feel bad because when she told me she had cancer I told her that I would back up whatever decision – treatment or no. And I told DH that I figured within a year of Dad’s death that she would be gone too – and it’s looking like I will be right. That will leave just me as I have no siblings. Thank god for DH, he is my anchor and my life preserver all at the same time.
