Hi Anna,
Have you ever thought of putting together a series like http://cathefriedrich.blogspot.com/? I've always wanted to try periodization but can't put together a routine especially using my current DVD/videos (and I have a ton to choose from).
I'm not a Cathe fan but will buy her new set in 2008, if you put out a set like this I'd buy it in a New York minute!
Is there a way to use your current FitPrimes (old and new) in periodization routine?
I should have asked first what you think of periodization, is it even worth the trouble?

I've been intrigued by the Cathe set as well even though I haven't been the ***gest fan of hers over the years. I know that competitive runners use periodization workouts all the time. But isn't our goal to look great every day and not just "peak" for a particular period of time (unless you're in a show or beauty pageant of course)?

I don't think periodization is for only a particular period of...but I really don't know...I thought it was another way to increase fitness. If sub results are not going make you look better too http://www.fitnessfavorites.com/board/images/smilies/redface.gif then I don't know how interested I'd be. Of course, with increased fitness you'll be able to workout harder and more efficently and in the end look better.
Sigh, I guess I'd best do some research on the subject

The idea is to cycle your workouts so that each time you get into your heaviest workouts you hit new heights!
For example, you might do a rotation with high rep low weight workouts that gradually work up to some heavy weight workouts. You can't just keep going at that max pace indefinitely so you periodize again. Maybe this time you don't start so easy and you end up working even harder than the first period.
You can do this with endurance, weights, aerobic capacity, all kinds of aspects of fitness. It keeps you from getting into a rut and having your results drop off. It also keeps you mentally engaged.

Thanks Lisa! I did end up researching it and to be honest, it's too involved for me to put together a plan.
I think my December and January rotations will keep my body on it's toes...December will include FIRM Crosstrainers Cardio/StrongHeart, Strong/StrongBody, Hare, Tortoise, Tough Tape and Tough Tape 2. In Jan I plan to use Slim Series workouts.
We'll see what comes of it all :D
