The jury is still out about most of the subject listed. It is interesting to say the least though. Food for thought (sorry no pun intended).

I occasionally eat South Beach Diet bars but unfortunately they didn't get reviewed. I'll have to really check the label out the next time I go to the store!! Thanks so much for this, Anna.

I subscribe to Dr. Mercola's newsletter and, until now, did not make time to watch his videos...I will make time from now on.
Some of the information is shocking.

Very interesting info on soy and soy products. As a vegetarian it seems ever more challenging to find the right ingredients for my meals.
I have to say that I am aware of a lot of the "energy"/"health" bar information. In the last few years I have been working on increasing my fiber/whole foods intake and decreasing my sugar intake and have been reading food labels like crazy. Taking a 40 day sugarless challenge, I must say that sugar is everywhere and what a wake up call it has been!!!! It is what I consider an ingredient that is found in epidemic proportions and in all kinds of foods, whether they are labled as health food, known as junk food and/or everything in between. Honestly, I find it horrifying and have come to see it as a poison. Wherever I can, I cut sugar out and the reason is simply that I feel better without it. Also I know that I will get plenty of it in unsuspecting and well known places (beer, wine, salad dressings, other sauces and condiments, white flour products, products with honey, molasses, stevia (<-- don't think this one is technically a sugar). And be on the lookout for places where manufacturers are sneaking in these man-made sugars (splenda and it's malicious and murderous friends). I know that last statement sounds radical but out of control sugar intakes and all these fake sugars are a real serious problem to a healthy and optimally functioning body and brain.

I too am sugar free!
Despite the fact that it is a dietary evil, and that I'd like to think that I'm off it forever, the reality is that it creeps back up on me and then I have to get strict again.
I find the same thing with caffeine - I start getting too much of it so I go "on the wagon" for awhile and come back to it more balanced.
And don't get me started on transfats! My father is obese, has high blood pressure, cancer, is on kidney dialysis, diabetic and we once talked about his diet. He was convinced that he ate healthy food. I went to his cupboard and started pulling out items one by one and they all had partially hydrogenated oils in them. Even *I* was surprised by some of the foods that are adulterated with this stuff!
For overweight friends, to get started I tell them to get that junk out of their diet first - without any other changes - and watch themselves lose weight effortlessly.
