I really enjoy these workouts. I am able to up the intesity w/ adding light weights in the aerobic sections and heavier in the heavy weight sections. I am 5 "6 and 156 at the most. I would like to be 10 lbs lighter at the MOST and know I would be if I ate right (OOOO its hard if your a junk food junkie who also finally gave up smoking!!!!). I lost 10lbs (166) w/ just the videos and no dieting. My goal is not to be SKINNY but to be healthy. My question is w/ eating healthy (not dieting) and using these videos will I see results or do I need more cardio? How many calories do I need to burn? Of course running and step do burn calories but do I really need to burn 600 or more calories a workout? Also I get 4 w/o a week maybe I need to up to 5 or 6.

You don't say how old you are. I found that my metabolism got real slow around 42 and before I knew it, I had 15 pounds that I could have sworn were not mine. I found that eating healthy (which for me meant portion control, as I always ate good foods, albeit in massive quantities) combined with Anna's workouts (new, old and in-between) were all it took. I do workout between 5 and 7 times a week.
I've read that burning 600 calories an hour is the "perfect" cardio workout but I think it depends on what you are looking for and how much time you have to or choose to devote to exercise. IMHO, Anna's workouts are perfect for a person who has a limited time to exercise, wants to work every part of her body in all sorts of ways, be fit, and keep her body looking and moving "young".
IMHO, if you're upping the intensity by adding light weights to the aerobic bits and using heavy weights in the weight portions, you're getting a lot more of a cardio workout than you realize.
I've also found that results improve if you keep increasing weights slowly over time.
By the way, congratulations on stopping smoking! I quit almost two years ago and think it was one of the hardest things I've ever done! (now if I could only get off the Nicorette and Commit lozenges before my teeth fall out...)

Thanks for the advice. I'll be turning 30 in June. One of the reasons why I asked about fitprime is because I pulled my peraformus (?) muscle over a year ago and I am now having throbbing in my leg (I'm under treatment and was told it's either my siatic nerve or SI joint). It was not excersise related. I was advised not to do high impact to include step (oooo but I love it) so Cathe workouts are out of the pic for me because they really make my leg throb at night. I will not devote more than an hour a day to w/o as I have two small kids. I just need to get in 6 days and change my eating habits then see how I do w/ results. You know what is REALLY horrible.... I think for me giving up sugar is going to be harder than quitting smoking was!!!!

This made me laugh, Donna! I was addicted to Nicorette for about 3 years after I quite smoking. I went on the nicotine patch to break my Nicorette addiction!!!

Hi, Lori! Is it safe to assume that you're no longer wearing the patch? I tried the patch but discovered that I am a delicate flower and break out in blisters (can only imagine what the nicotine did to my lungs...).
It is absolutely absurd that I spend more on nicotine replacement products (and probably have a higher concentration of nicotine in my system) than I ever did when I was smoking. Oh, well, the wages of sin...
Have a great day!

I quit smoking 15 years ago by using Nicorette. I kept chewing it for a couple years. I weaned off of it with bubblegum - I'm serious. :D

Donna, I followed the patch plan closely and was weaned off it in 6 weeks. I chewed regular gum during that time too. That's too bad you react to the patch! I really got frustrated with spending so much on nicotine replacement too - but still say it is way better than smoking!
Spidygirl, I would think if you lost 10 pounds with just working out, you are going to have great success with healthy eating and continuing to work out! :)

Thanks Lori...eating right is going to be the real challange for me!!!! I have to little boys 3 and 5 and well I just should not buy them cookies because I eat them but then again that is not fair to them. I won't complain I'll just do it! By the way on the smoking issue.... I went to the Dentist a few days ago and let them know I might have cavities due to eating loads of hard candy and gum to quit smoking. Of course there is sugar free but...that bothers my stomache. She said to eat candy that doesn't stick to your teeth like chocolate...I just sort of laughed. If I ate chocolate like I chewed bubble gum..whew. No cavities though! Whats worse cavities or lung cancer ya know? :)

Just make changes slowly, getting a grip on each one, before adding another. It was too overwhelming for me to change everything overnight. Make your goal to take in 5 veges/fruits, but start easy like with just 1-2 and add another in a few weeks. Do the same with drinking water, and whatever healthy eating habits you want to incorporate into your lifestyle.
I love cookies too and if they are around, I just can't keep out of them. I buy just a few for the kids for a treat every so often. I don't make them anymore - it is just too "dangerous" for me. This is what I do instead. I have a "breakfast cookie" almost every day. It is not exactly a cookie, maybe a bit more healthy, I only make 1, and it fills that need for me.
1/3 cup oatmeal
1/3 cup dry fat-free milk powder
1 tablespoon splenda (or sugar, turbinado, etc)
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon raisins
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup sugar free applesauce
Mix and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes (my oven takes 25). It's 5 WW points/about 250 calories.
Just an idea!
Take care!
Lori

You can definitely reach your goals with only WHFN videos, especially if you were able to lose 10 lbs without changing your eating! I've found that, for me, it's not even necessary (and would be counterproductive) to do them more than 4 times per week. I'm 41 now, and my muscles don't like being worked 2 days in a row, even with lighter (12 lbs or less) weights.
Moderate cardio activity on the off days (I walk 15 miles/week) will be enough to drop 1-2 lbs a week if you also change your eating. I've lost 36 lbs in 22 weeks (6 inches off my waist), more than ever in my life with this moderate workout routine. Your muscles need recovery time to repair and build lean mass, so having rest days from the workouts is very important. I didn't really believe that "less is more" when it comes to exercise until I experienced it myself, but it's really true!

Less is more indeed! So glad to hear it....I'm young (28), short (5'2") and stocky (seriously here - my doctor actually commented on my wide hipbones and shoulders..and my excellent muscle tone!)and while I've never been heavy, I've always been a little "plush" http://www.whfn.com/board/images/smilies/tongue.gif !
I've been a fitness nut for many many years, and competed in my very first triathlon this summer. Oddly enough, even though I was working out between 1-2 hours a day, and was eating healthily, I GAINED weight! To be fair, I didn't really try to lose it, as calorie deficit is a big no-no when training so hard. But still...yikes! I didn't gain much, just few pounds, but it bummed me out a bit. I was so proud of myself for completing the race, but a bit dissapointed in my appearance. I'm usually all about peformance and strength, but of course I want to look the way I feel!
Of course, to do the race training I had to nix the weights. I was cardio-queen for the summer. Now I'm back to a more relaxed schedule, with FitPrime/Firm/Kickbut, Taekwondo twice a week, and some cycling and swimming thrown in for fun (I stopped running almost immediately after the race, as it's my least favourite and hard on my feet).
I love how these workouts make me feel - strong, worked-out, but not dying. And I think I need a bit more recovery time too, so I'm going to hold back from going full-steam and working out with the videos 6 times a week. 3 or 4 is plenty, given my Taekwondo workouts. And with the beautiful fall weather we're having, walking is a joy, and biking is always fantastic.
I've already noticed a slight difference, and I hope to get between 10-15 pounds off by next traithlon season by being sensible and getting back to weight training. Interestingly enough, I was about 10 pounds lighter when I was just walking, doing yoga and some weights before, without any major effort, so I think moderation really is key!
Good luck to everyone - strong women rock!

I just rejoined WW for the umpteenth time a few weeks back, and have been adding in walks and getting my feet wet again with various workouts thrown in. I have most of the WHFN workouts, but have yet to use them. I was going to do an AWT rotation doing the firms and then in a few weeks the FIrm classics, but don't think I'm ready for it. So I'm thinking about pulling these out. So far I've lost 5.4 lbs. in two weeks, and hoping that this will help to get me back into the game of working out without the dread factor, and to keep my weightloss going. I'm a slow loser, and now that I'm 40 and had a total hysterectomy last year, more weight has piled on and the slower it is to lose. Anyhow...I guess the point of this post is to say I'm going to give these a whirl!!!! :D

Hi Karinderella. Just wanted to tell you that I went on your **** and loved it.
I'm a singer and a voice coach who is experiencing some of the same issues that you are. Wish you lived in CT. My dh is a piano technician for Steinway and Sons. Our son, who just turned 5 will be starting kindergarten this fall and I am wrestling with the question of whether or not I should take on an additional non music related ***. I love doing private voice coaching and I sing at weddings and funerals (am available AM's due to my current SAHM status). All I do know is that I worked as a cs rep for the phone company for 14 years and NEVER want to go back to doing that!!
I have recently gone back to doing FP DVD's after a long absence. I've lost 7lbs by controlling my carb intake and doing FP's.

Hi Peggylive,
Nice to hear from a fellow musician out there. I've really come to feel that adding some non-music work isn't giving up, it's more like career insurance!
Congrats on losing 7 pounds. That's enough to really feel a difference. Keep it up.
I still do my WHFNs. Even a year and 8 months after I 1st started doing them, they still make me sweat and they still make my muscles sore. By now I have modified them to make them more advanced. I don't use the stick for balance at all and I heavy up the weights to 12, sometimes 15 lbs. I've been adding yoga DVDs to my mix for a year, so now I know enough to do the yoga moves without the modifications in the WHFNs.
In the winter I do 2 WHFNs, 1 yoga and one TLT (Tracie Long Training--functional fitness) DVD a week, plus 15 miles/week walking to one of my workplaces. This summer I got a bike (Which I love), so now I bike maybe 50 miles/week (lots of hills). I have only been doing a DVD once or twice a week, mostly upper body to compliment the biking. It's plenty.
Last year I managed to lose close to 50 pounds all together, which took me 8 months. I eat a lot more now than I did when I was losing. I don't count calories much, but when I do, it's usually at least 2500/day. My weight has stayed within a 3-lb range all this time, so I think it's a good weight for me.

Karin, I was glad you mentioned that you used a functional fitness DVD as well. I have been taking a Fit and Functional stability ball class at our local Y and love it. Using a ball doesn't seem as though it would be that tough but it is!! Losing all that weight is awesome!! If I lose 5lbs more, everything in my closet will fit me perfectly. I do running during the warmer months (15-25 miles per week) so I concentrate mostly on the upper body too.
