I have no one to workout with but my videos. My son does workout but he is into a different type of exercise. He encourages me tho. My husband works all day outside keeping our 18 acres in good shape so he is doing functional fitness constantly. My sister used to walk with me but now it is too inconvenient since we live 10 miles apart. And I don't think she does any type of exercise but something for her back problems every night. I usually listen to audio books on my portable cd player while I walk. Thanks to whoever invented videos for keeping me exercising. I don't even have anyone who is interested in talking about the video workouts so these instructors have become my workout buddies and have become an important part of my life. Does anyone relate to this?

I am the only one in my famil that exercises regularly -- well, at least in my house. My father does use the treadmill, bike and lift weights when he gets the opportunity.

But in my house, I am the only one that has embraced this as a part of my life. Probably because I was overweight. So that forces me to stick to it and luckily I happen to love working out! And I can't even begin to say how thankful I am of workout videos and these forums!

Until two years ago there was no one in my house but me, but my family was not into exercising. I have always done some type of exercise but what really let me know that I would exercise for life was when my father had his first major heart attack at 44 and his brother died while walking on the beach at age 45. I am in my 50s and going strong – heart is in great shape! When my mom moved in, I started her walking and later with Anna’s Just Right Series. Now she has several other tapes and she works out 3 - 4 days a week.

I am the sole exerciser in my house, unless you count golfing. My DH is an avid golfer. But, I'm sorry, strolling around and swinging a club just doesn't cut it for me.

I'm the one. My wife and I used to get up first thing in the morning and do the Firm together. After the kids were born:) , that died and I am the solo exerciser in the household. I'm the standard bearer in my house for exercise, fitness, and nutrition. :) Oh well, someone's got to do it right? Ha!!

Hi, I am the only one in my family that exercise. Even though you feel alone, you are not. DH thinks I have too many tapes/dvds and doesn't really like for me to exercise but he tolerates it. As long as I am not exercising when he comes in from work. Oh well. Sometimes, we have do some things solo. Actually, either I have been accustomed to working out alone or I enjoy working out alone. I am not sure which one or it could be both. Luckly we have a forum and community of support to help each other.

Yes Annette, we are not alone. There are wonderful people on these forums who understand and encourage us daily. They "get it". The only person in my life right now who really asks me "have you worked out today?" is my son. My DH never asks this but thinks the way I work out for me is great and never complains when I buy more and more exercise vids. So I guess I do have encouragement at home. It just frustrates me sometimes that I can't talk to anyone else about this. So the people on these forums mean a lot to me. Good advice and lots of empathy whenever I need it. So I just want to say thanks to you all and especially to the Bensons and Mark Hendrickson who set me on the right path.:p

Happy New Year and may we continue to work toward our fitness goals. I think we will try and do the weight challenge in Columbia, SC. Hopefully with baited breathe and fingers cross the entire family can participate. Only my son Andrew needs to gain weight as well as height everyone else, needs to lose weight.

I did meet a really nice woman through my ebay purchases and we email each other everyday. Not only do we email which videos/dvds we have done for the day but receipes and cooking hints too. And everything else womena can discuss. :D This way, she keeps my spirits lifted and I keep threatening to send my children to her to keep her spirits lifted. Again, Have a Happy New Year...Don't forget the collards and black eyed peas. Recently my children have started exercising! They are the ones getting me going again now. For about 2 years it was only me exercising, but dh would participate in some seasonal sports.

I am the only one in my family too. I am noticing however, that DS, now 5 years old, loves to come downstairs with me and play with his trains while I work out. He sometimes will grab some dumbbells too, but I think really he just likes the company while he plays. He has even said, "Come on mom, aren't you going to exercise today?" He does know it is important to me. Maybe I will have an exercise partner one day.

I am the only one in the house exercising as well... My DH needs to, and used to do Vol 1 with me (except for the floor work) when we were first married, but he thinks the step work is too complex for him. He is very encouraging, though, and will nag me if I come home from work and start whining about not doing my workout. :) Bonus for me - he makes dinner while I'm working out!http://www.whfn.com/board/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Lori - My 5yo DD and 3yo DS like to "work out" too. This morning towards the end of Metaboost DD came in to work out with me. She carefully arranged her rebounder right in front of the fan, placed her yoga block and 2-lb dumbbells just so and told me to go ahead and shower, that she would be up in a little while. It's mini me! I hope I can set a good example for her. DS mostly likes to do down dog. DH rides his bike to work most days (weather permitting) - he sneaks in about 15 minutes 4x per day this way. We used to work out at the gym together and ride a tandem bike, but that's not happening with the kids. Ah well, maybe someday our schedules will coincide again.

Two quick stories:
One, a few weeks ago, my 9 year old son (going on 19), was bare chested with his jeans on. He had my 5 pound weights, trying to pump iron, doing bicep curls. Andrew said, "momma I am getting in shape for my girlfriend Peyton." Ahhh children.

Two, I was working out yesterday with Metaboost. I asked Dave if he was ready to workout. Keeping in mind Dave wants to workout. He then replied,"after the warmup." Anyway, he is piddling on the computer. The legs section with Heidi is on. She is doing front and back bends. He gets up and joins me. Keep in mind he has two left feet and has no rhythm. Dave does just the legs and sits down. Then he says let me know when the ab section comes on! Ahhh men.

Sometimes one has to have a sense of humor! My family if nothing else humors me, more than anything else! So much for Dave's New Year Resolution. I'll keep on exercising regardless!

My mom works out with me every so often. We go on long walks together. She is planning on re-joining the gym.

I wish I could get my 12 year daughter to exercise more, and watch TV less. Katie does love the old Fitprimes, especially the ones with Miss Anna in them. She thinks that Miss Anna is really cool. I try to watch her diet but her father enjoys sweets, soft drinks and gravy on everything! How can I get her motivated in spite of Dave's efforts to derail our fitness and exerise routine. Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated besides sending HIM to boarding school:D .

I'm the only one in my family who regularly exercises in my family as well. But thank goodness for fitness DVD's and videos. i've been using them for over 20 years now. They have been cheaper than a club membership and just the right motivation. The forums help in keeping interested in working out as well.

Well, Katie and I decided to do the Slim Down Columbia. She is on the front page of today's The State Newspaper!! I hope this will motivate both of us, Annette

I am the only one also...My boyfriend says he never has the time, plus he prefers going to the gym. I don't mind working out alone thought..when I do the videos I feel like I am training with my own personal trainer. I moved all my equipment to the porch in the back of the house and I have a huuugeee space to my own, is awesome to be able to disconnect from the rest of the world. :D  :D

I hear that!!! http://www.whfn.com/board/images/smilies/smile.gif

I'm the only person in my family that works out on a regular basis. I love my "disconnected from the rest of the world" time.

My family teases me about my workouts. Then they turn right around and tell me I look great. Sometimes I'd like to bonk all their heads together like coconuts.

I've had workout partners, running partners, and I've done it all alone. I don't have a preference. As long as I get to workout, I'm happy. http://www.whfn.com/board/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

My Hubby eats horrible too, He's lucky so far though...he doesn't gain a pound:confused:
Me on the other hand can just look at what he is eating & feel like I gain 2lbs.
I try to feed my 4 year old daughter healthy stuff like (wheat bread & lots of fruits & veggies) She does not drink Soda at the house but when we go out to eat I let her get one if she wants.
I get teased a LOT for not giving her soda;)
