Hi! I have been lurking for about a week now and am impressed by how much knowledge you all seem to have! I have a fitness question regarding my target heart rate and hope someone can help me with it.

I recently purchased a heart rate monitor to make sure I was getting the maximum benefit from my workouts. I have the classic Firm Vol 1 and the BSS system before the transfirmer (used FL and Sculpting Stick) plus I do some kick boxing workouts.

My problem is that I cannot keep my HR in the 60% - 70% range without practically stopping. It quickly gets up to the 80% - 90% range. I know that burns more calories but is it ok to do the workout in that range? I don't feel pushed at all with my heart rate there but its not like I am super fit or anything.

My main goal in working out is to lose weight at this point. I have lost 16 lbs since May but have 36 more to go. I want to be fit too but I need to burn calories!! Any help would be appreciated!

I also have that problem and I have been so used to working out in the higher range that sometimes I feel like I'm not really "working" out.BUT it does feel good to NOT feel like I'm working to the total point of exhaustion too.In order to decrease the range I decrease the amount of weight I use or lower the impact/cardio.
If the range was higher it would probably be a little easier to stay with each "program" but I guess as you adjust to the workouts your HR will too. There have been several postings here regarding why the lower HR range is advised and I think it has to do with the "aerobic" as opposed to the "anaerobic" HR ranges.

Could it be that you're not calculating your maximum heart rate correctly? Maybe you're trying for 60% of too low a number. I don't know if that makes sense... The Firm recommended in "Twenty Questions about Fitness" that you should be able to talk but not able to sing while working out.

I think if you search this board you'll find other heart rate discussion threads that might help you.
